When to Schedule an Appointment for An X-ray
Bone Fractures
Fractures range in severity from hairline cracks to complete breaks where the bone separates into multiple pieces. If you experience a high-impact fall or a direct blow to a limb, followed by swelling, pain, or limited mobility, you may be dealing with a fracture. If necessary, we can apply a splint to stabilize and support the bone and refer you to a local orthopedic specialist. We can securely email your X-ray images directly to you, or provide them on a CD. Having these images available will allow you to share them with your specialist and may help you avoid needing additional X-rays.
Sprains
Sprains often mimic the same symptoms as a broken bone. While a sprain will not show up on an X-ray, they eliminate the possibility of a fracture. Once the X-ray comes back negative, our medical team can confidently diagnose the soft-tissue injury and recommend appropriate treatment, which often includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
